  • FAQ | KREPAP

Questions? Perhaps there are already suitable answers here? If not, just write or call FAQ Can I order my books from Karlsruhe and have them delivered? ? Yes, since I work full-time in Karlsruhe and am therefore in Karlsruhe almost every day, delivery is not a problem. In principle, all orders can be commissioned digitally, the binding material (e.g. repairs) can also be sent by post. Why does KREPAP print exclusively on 100g/m² Paper? When glued, thinner paper creates excessive waves (the paper expands in the opposite direction to the paper fibers) and, depending on its condition, can lead to poorer binding results. The pressure does not shine through the paper as much and it feels better, in short, because of the quality. Of course, it is up to the customer himself which paper he chooses when he prints himself. In what form can I submit files for printing? KREPAP only accepts PDF files, either by e-mail (up to 50 MB), on CD or USB stick. With a link to Dropbox, for example, larger files can also be processed. Printing from a Word file is at the risk and responsibility of the customer. Does KREPAP also print formats larger than A4? Prints are possible up to and including A3. PLEASE TRANSMIT A3 PAGES IN AN EXTRA FILE! Why is the print so cheap? KREPAP is a bookbindery and not a printer. Only after many customers had paid up to EUR 1.30 for a color page in various shops did KREPAP decide to also offer printing, so that it is also affordable. KREPAP only prints in connection with a book binding! Can color pages be printed separately from a contiguous file? Basically no! The printer automatically detects which side contains color. If, for example, only the cover sheet is in color, this is of course not a problem, but if there are several colored pages in between, not every color page can be printed individually! TIP: Instead of color, you can create headings or similar in shades of gray. IMPORTANT: Please check beforehand how many color pages the document contains, there have already been a few surprises. Even if only one pixel is colored, the printer counts it as a colored page! Some pages (e.g. copied PDF documents) contain color levels, even if they appear b/w. If anything is unclear, KREPAP will be happy to make a test printout. According to the terms and conditions, the print job is binding with the transmission of the files, so subsequent complaints are not fruitful. What do I have to consider if I print myself? It is best to use 90-100g/m² to achieve a good binding result. Digital prints are recommended because ink prints often smear. The grain of the paper should always run in the longitudinal direction of the paper. For example, if you print 2 A5 type areas on an A4 page, the running direction is no longer correct, which leads to tension in the book. How much rand do I have to leave to the Bund for my work? As a rule, 2.5 - 3 cm is chosen, but this is not decisive for the binding. The manual adhesive binding allows the book to be opened completely without the pages coming off or the text disappearing. After gluing, the book block is trimmed on 3 sides, making it a little smaller. The book cover then has approx. A4 as the final format. Does KREPAP also do proofreading? "No," there's just no time for that. If something seems suspicious to KREPAP, this will be communicated, but the following applies: Material will be processed as handed over (see General Terms and Conditions), the client is responsible for the content. You should only give the order when you are sure that everything is correct. I would like to design a book title myself, what is the best way to send the file? A Word file is best for the title print so that the margins can be changed appropriately and the title can be adjusted to fit the overall image. Title printing is only possible with half-fabric volumes, embossing is possible on fabric, leather, etc., as well as on elephant skin paper. What is the difference to a binding in a copy shop? In copy shops, the paper is bound in a hot-melt device, ie the paper is only glued to the spine. Sort of like a tear-off pad. With manual bookbinding, the book block is fanned out by hand so that the glue also gets between the pages, thus ensuring a secure connection. Most copy shops do not offer title embossing and the book covers are prefabricated with a clamping device in which the paper is simply clamped. In the manual production, the book covers are measured and made according to the cut book block. The difference is simply in the quality and craftsmanship. How long does a book binding take? At KREPAP there are no finished products, such as clamp binding and no hot glue binding (see above). Each book cover is made by hand and of course needs time to dry. Hardcovers should be allowed to dry for at least one night, preferably 2-3 days. Softcovers dry within approx. 2 hours. This should be planned for when placing the order. Why does the paper ripple? Books are bound with glue, which means moisture gets into the paper, causing the ripples. When wet, paper expands in the opposite direction to the fibers. The books are pressed to dry and should be allowed to dry for at least a day. Therefore the ideal processing time for hardcovers is 2-3 days. With X-Press orders, it can happen that the paper still contains residual moisture due to the drying time being too short. It can therefore take a few days, if not weeks, for the waves to disappear. This does not apply to soft covers! When is the Sunday and public holiday surcharge calculated? Only if the file is on a Sunday o. public holiday and processing must begin immediately. For example, if the file is submitted on a Friday or Saturday for collection on Monday, no surcharge will apply.

  • Herstellung & Materialien | KREPAP Buchbinderei Marco Pfeiffer

Manufacturing & Materials KREPAP only uses high quality materials for the production of books. Adhesive bindings are made using the Lumbeck method produced, which means that the paper is fanned out from both sides and thus each side receives an application of glue. Therefore, KREPAP gives a 10 year guarantee on the adhesive binding of all hardcovers. After the adhesive binding, the book block is cut on three sides. Book covers are made with 2.5 - 3mm gray cardboard. KREPAP offers a wide variety of paper, linen, fabric and leather as cover materials. Each book is made by hand. The following products are offered: Full leather strap Half leather strap Whole fabric tape Half-woven tape Cardboard tape / stiff brochure Soft cover Material leather Ledereinband Mit Logoprägung gold auf schwarzem Rindsleder Halblederband Halblederband mit Elefantenhaut Ganzlederband in Rindsleder schwarz Ledereinband Mit Logoprägung gold auf schwarzem Rindsleder 1/35 Lederband Leather must be sharpened before processing, i.e. made thinner so that it can be processed well. Leather is haptically and olfactory unmistakable. A leather cover also weighs a little more and thus the content of the book can be enhanced. If the whole book or the Book cover made entirely of leather If only the spine of the book is covered, it is a half leather strap. KREPAP only makes fixed prices for half leather volumes, as the purchase prices for leather are very different. Material linen & fabric Ganzgewebe Metallicleinen silber mit silberner Prägung Halbgewebe rot mit Rückenprägung weiß Geschenkbücher mit fast 1000 Seiten Inhalt Ganzgewebeband Bibliotheksleinen bordeauxrot mit Prägung silber Ganzgewebe Metallicleinen silber mit silberner Prägung 1/18 Gewebe Bookcloth feels more material than librarycloth, but librarycloth is more robust and partly washable. Many colors are available. A book cover that is completely covered with fabric / linen is called a whole fabric tape or linen tape. Accordingly, a book cover that is only covered with fabric / linen on the back is called a half-fabric tape or half-linen tape. Half-woven tapes are usually laminated with paper, for example elephant skin paper, which can be printed and embossed with a title you have designed yourself, for example. KREPAP can only emboss and not print on cardboard volumes. However, due to the oversize required, these can be printed by printers. Stempel
